9 more in the bank!

When I got out of bed to day and looked outside it looked very inviting. That being said, I was not sure whether or not I wanted to head to the gym and hit the treadmill or head outside. The temps were hovering a little over 40, but it appeared to be windy.

After my wife got home, she told me that she would be heading to the gym with my daughter to take a class. She also said that it was pretty nice outside. So I decided to run suit up and head out.

I ended up running 9 miles in 1:16:55. I ran the same route as last time. The 3 mile splits were as follows:

25:45.81 Lap 1
25:37.30 Lap 2
25:32.65 Lap 3

Tomorrow Chris and I are planning to head out for a run. Not sure how far we will be running. I will leave that up to him. No matter how far we go, it will be nice to have a good friend to run with.

Hit the Y with my son....

Today my wife and daughter were going to be gone most of the afternoon, so Grant and I decided to head to the gym. I told him that he should jump on a treadmill and see how far he could run without stopping. I was very impressed. He ended up running 2.51 miles in 30 minutes. I may have a new running partner.

As far as my run, I did 6.82 miles in 60 minutes. I don't think that I am going to have any problem with the mini. We shall see.

Look what I earned...

Today I headed to the Y for my run because I just didn't feel like running outside in the cold.

So I ended up running 6.93 miles in 60 minutes. The only reason I stopped was that my wife was on her way home and we had some things to do.

The funny part of this whole run happened when I got home. After I walked in the door and was talking to my wife, she looked up at me and said "Are your nipples bleeding?" I looked down at my shirt, and this is what I saw:

The bad thing is that I didn't even feel it. I do now! I can only imagine what the people at the Y were thinking. I then took the shirt off and snapped the pic for all to see.

Later this afternoon I headed out to Target and picked up a compression shirt. Hopefully this will eliminate this problem in the future.

New Shoes = More Miles

I took the new Phoenix's out for their first official run on the streets and was extremely pleased. The shoes feel like running on pillows. They are amazing. It might just be that I have been running in all terrain New Balance. Not sure.

I ended up running my longest run in years, 9 miles in 1:16:45. The route that I run in a 3 mile loop near my house. The splits were as follows:

25:55.02 Lap 1
25:14.38 Lap 2
25:36.38 Lap 3

The average mile was 8:32.

Like I said, I am very happy with the new shoes. I may try to add some miles over the weekend. We shall see.

You know what they say about excuses...

For one reason or another I did not run one time over the weekend. I could list any number of reasons, but I won't.

I did manage to get a new pair of Asics Gel-Phoenix's though. Check them out.

As for today, I did manage to make it to the gym to try out the new kicks. I did 3.1 miles in 27:26. As long as the weather holds out, I will hit the road with them tomorrow and see how they do outside. So far I love them.

On another note, check out my blogging buddy Jrod's new pup. Awesome dog.

Wanted to run, just didn't

The running that I had planned on doing this week did not happen. Yeah, it started off pretty good. I did 5 miles on Sunday. Followed that up with 6.39 miles on Monday. Then I chose to take Tuesday off.

On Wednesday there was a pretty nasty wind storm that produced winds near 70 miles an hour, according to the news. So I decided that I would head to the Y later that evening. So I run suited up and headed for the gym with Grant in tow. As I pulled into the parking lot I was surprised to find that they were closed. I could see some lights on inside, but those could have just been security or auxiliary lights. Who knows. Anyway, I headed back home. That night I made sure to throw my running things in my backpack in case the wind died down enough for Chris and I to head out for a run, which we did. We ended up running 2 miles in 15:34.46. Not too bad. There was a little more wind that I would have liked, but we made it.

Yesterday I worked 2nd shift so that I could end my week early, so there was no running on Thursday.

We will see what the rest of the weekend holds. I may try to go and get some new kicks. If I do, I will definitely have to give them a go. We shall see.

Warm weather means outdoor running

The weather around here has become wonderful. The last two days have been in the upper 50's. The week ahead looks to be just as nice with a few chances of showers.

So, when I finally drug my butt out of bed around 2:30 this afternoon I headed out for a run. I did not have any pre-determined mileage in mind. I just figured I would run until I felt like I was done. I ended up running 5 miles in 41:19.79. Not bad. There is such a big difference from running on a treadmill and running on the road. Hopefully I will be doing longer runs in the weeks to come.

Weekend Running Update

Like I said in an earlier post, we have had a lot of snow and ice over the past week. So I headed to the YMCA for the two runs that I did this weekend. The first one was on Friday night. I covered 6.89 miles in 60 minutes. I was happy with the distance and the pace. The second run was earlier today. I covered 3.59 miles in 30 minutes. Happy with this one too. I would have ran farther, but I guess everyone is at the gym getting their workouts in before indulging during the Super Bowl this evening.

I was happy to find a couple of the treadmills at the Y don't have the 30 minute time limit set on them. As long as I can get on one of them I won't have to use two different ones or stop after 30 minutes.

As far as my running for January, it started out good with me running almost everyday and then became a little less frequent. On Friday I signed up to run the Kentucky Derby Festival Mini Marathon, so I hope that February's runs are more consistent. I saw the extended forecast and it is calling for 40° to 50° degree temps. So I will try to do most of my runs outside.

Here is a graph showing my January running:

This came from www.runningahead.com. It is a wonderful site for tracking your progress.

Time to get ready for the game.
