Chuck's Kiwanis 5k recap

Yesterday Chris and I ran in the Chuck's Kiwanis 5k. Chris had told me about this run last year, but we for whatever reason didn't make it. It is supposed to be know for it's unusual trophies. I will say that they were unusual. They were everything from fire engines to sword fish trophies for the first 100 finishers.

The other unique thing about this run was that it was a 5k for the men and a 4k for the women. Everyone started at the same time and who ever came in first won. No men's or women's division. It was pretty cool.

We started off way too fast, it happens. We hit the first mile in 7:10 and the second at 15:07. I ended up finishing up at 23:41. Chris crossed just a few seconds after me at 24:31. Don't know how we managed to just reverse our times but it was cool.

Up next for us will be the Utica run followed by the Down Syndrome of Louisville Buddy Run.

You can check out trophy pics from our run at Chris's blog.

Finally quit talking about it and did it.

I feel like every week I say that if I get time over the weekend I am going to put in a long run. Well, consider it done. After waking up around 3:30 am Friday and not being able to go back to sleep for a couple of hours I headed out for the first long run I have put in since April. Not sure what motivated me. Maybe it was the fact that the new Runner's World was staring at me from the coffee table. What ever it was, I will take it.

When I headed out I was not sure how far I would go. My goal was to put in at least 5 miles at an easy pace. I ended up putting in 6 miles in 47:50.16. I am pretty happy with that. I do like the fact that I am now running around an 8 minute mile and calling that an easy pace. When we put in our nightly runs at work we are now hitting around a 7:30 - 7:45 mile.

I may try and put in another long run this weekend, but who knows. There is a lot of yard work that needs to be done around here now that the rain has stopped. Maybe it will even be warm enough to jump in the pool.

That's all I have for now.
